River Tay and its bridges
Dundee lies to the north of the Tay estuary, and is joined to Fife by two impressive bridges.
Rail Bridge
A railway bridge was built in the 19th century and spectacularly collapsed in 1879 - an event commemorated in poetry by William McGonagall.
Road Bridge
The road bridge dates from 1966, and replaced a ferry service which commenced in the 1700s. Viewed from the Law Hill, the road bridge appears as a Tower stretching up from the city towards Fife on the opposite shore.
