Posters - information for presenters

Displaying your Poster

Subject to final confirmation, we aim to have all posters on display throughout the whole of the conference (Mon-Weds). On arrival you will be informed which poster board you have been allocated. Please put your poster up as soon as possible, and certainly before your presentation slot.

Each poster has a time slot (in one of the refreshment breaks), you should stand alongside your poster at that time, and be prepared to answer questions about your work.

Poster Advice

  • Posters should be at most 1.80 m high x 1.20 m wide, and are to be displayed vertically
  • Pins will be provided to mount the poster, but author must bring everything else
  • Posters must be prepared in advance: supplies for this purpose will not be provided
  • Posters must be set up during the break before the allotted poster session
  • One of the authors should be at the poster for information and discussion during the time allotted for that particular poster session
  • Posters should be left on the poster boards until Wednesday afternoon
  • Posters should be dismantled between 16:45 and 17:00 on Wednesday afternoon
  • Each poster should have a heading, giving the title and author's name and affiliation
  • Each poster should have a photograph of the presenting author to facilitate identification of the author by conference attendees

Suggestions

  • Posters provide the opportunity to show your work on a one-on-one basis with interested colleagues. You want to attract and hold the attention of the passer-by, so spend time planning and preparing your poster.
  • Make a mock-up of your display, with typing and printing the size you intend to use. Mount it, back away about two meters and see what impression it makes. Is it easy to read from a distance of one meter?
  • The contents should be displayed in a logical sequence: e.g. Introduction, results, discussion and conclusions.
  • Material will have to be read by attendees from a distance of one meter or more. Therefore, large, bold lettering is advised. Be sure that concept maps and other illustrations are legible.
  • The effectiveness of a poster presentation will be enhanced by adding some colour. However, the presentation needs not to be "arty". Ease of reading and good organization is more important than artistic flair.
